How Can We Promote Inclusion by Facilitating
Friendship and Assistance for Disabled People?

A free conference for Gloucestershire
on Thursday 29 September 2016

9.30am – 3.00pm

 The Pavilion, Hatherley Lane, Cheltenham GL51 6PN

We are excited to invite you to a free county conference we are running on September 29th 2016 with support from Gloucestershire County Council. We know from too many personal stories that disabled children, young people and adults are often socially isolated. We believe that the development of friendships and engagement in the community should not be optional extras but are central to good lives for disabled people of all ages – just as they are for non-disabled people.

The conference includes good practice workshops from organisations around the country.

  • Inclusive Solutions has done pioneering work around the UK with Circles of Friends for disabled pupils and others experiencing difficulties in schools;
  • IBK Initiatives from Sheffield has a successful model for the recruitment and development of Personal Assistants;
  • Time2Share brings details of an established scheme linking volunteers with disabled young people around Bristol;
  • Local organisations Building Circles, ACSYL and LivesthroughFriends will share their successful ways of facilitating relationships, particularly in support of adults who have learning difficulties/disabilities.
This is a conference for people from the worlds of education, social care and health; for voluntary and community organisations and private providers. There are places reserved for disabled people themselves through Inclusion Gloucestershire, and for parents and carers through Carers Gloucestershire. If you agree with us that friendship and assistance should be central to ensuring that disabled people in the county are included in the world around them, please come and join us for a day designed to stimulate ideas and provoke us into action.

Please forward this invitation to others in Gloucestershire who may be interested.
