Top Tips for Organising a fundraising event at your school

Whether you are trying to raise money for more educational resources at your school, or you want to highlight the work of a charity that is close to your heart, hosting a fundraising event that students, teachers, and parents can get involved in is a great way to do this. Not only does it raise awareness for your charity or the need for school support, but it can also be a lot of fun for participants and spectators to be a part of. If this sounds like something that you are interested in as an educator, here are some tips on how you can organize a fundraising event at the school.

What Kind of Budget Do You Have?

Any kind of event will require some financial planning, and understanding your budget is key to it being a success. Although you might be working with a small number of funds, consider ways you can save money, such as making decorations by hand, asking for donated items to use or sell, and finding the right space for your event. If you are hosting this at your school, choosing the assembly hall, canteen, or even the sports field, if it is going to be an outdoor event, would be appropriate. Once you know how much money you have to work with, you can start allocating that budget to different parts of your event like catering, promotion, and so forth.

Choosing an Appropriate Event

Another thing you will need to keep in mind is how to choose an appropriate event for your fundraiser. As it will be taking place in a school, you should also think about how this event is going to reflect that establishment. Some ideas that could work include bake sales, second-hand/vintage fairs, sporting events, a live music concert or other performing arts, or even a school dance.

Inviting Guest Speakers

If you are focusing your fundraising efforts to help a charity, you might want to invite a guest speaker from that charity to talk more about what they do and educate people about it. They could even have a booth at your event with more information available such as flyers or booklets, and this will also allow them the opportunity to talk to individuals as well as address a crowd.

Promotion

If you want your event to be a success, you will need to promote it properly to get the attention that it deserves. You can use social media and websites like Eventbrite to help you spread the word and get an idea of how many people are expected to attend. You can also use resources like this one for fundraiser templates to help you create the perfect flyers to hand out at school and to local businesses.

Recruiting Volunteers

You can’t manage every aspect of this event by yourself, so recruiting some volunteers to help you put it all together is a must. Asking your students to get involved is a great way for them to learn more about the issue that you’re trying to raise awareness for, but it can also be a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their organizational skills and creative thinking. It’s also something that they can use for their college and job applications when they graduate.
